These turbulent times have brought crisis to each of our doors. Concerns around health, safety and fiscal stability have been on all of our minds. For people in our community living in poverty, these concerns are magnified and social services and resources are critical for survival.
In Clark County alone there are currently 82 households being served by Housing and Essential Needs. This program supports people with disabilities who are temporarily unable to work. People enrolled in HEN have struggled with significant health issues such as debilitating blood clots, life-changing car accidents, and mental health concerns that have kept a place to call home out of reach. With the support of caring case managers and rental subsidies these 82 community members can have a stable home.
I am very concerned that state programs like HEN are at serious risk of being cut during our economic downturn. We must all reach out to our legislators in the 49th, 17th and 18th districts to maintain the funding awarded to this imperative program and help keep our neighbors off the streets.
