PORTLAND — A 66-year-old man was arrested overnight on suspicion of shooting another man near Gresham, prompting a standoff with authorities, deputies say.

Robert Raymond Gillis Jr. is accused of attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He’s being held on $505,000 bail in the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Deputies initially responded to the shooting in the 4400 block of Southeast 302nd Avenue about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

They found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

The man suspected in the shooting, identified by deputies as Gillis, was still on the property, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies called for him to surrender. He didn’t emerge, and deputies called for SWAT members.

Gillis emerged shortly after midnight and was arrested without incident, deputies said early Thursday.

An investigation continues. No information about the circumstances of the shooting has been released.
