Letter: Be patriotic, wear a mask

Patriotism and the Fourth of July. These words go hand in hand. Patriotism is a word that is synonymous with loving your country, making sacrifices for it, and for the people in it.

Our soldiers have always been examples. Our first responders and medical professionals have always been examples (and even more so this year).

But there is also a new way this year — for everyone, this time — to demonstrate our love for our country, and each other. There is a new way that we are being asked to give up a little bit of our personal freedom for the benefit of others. Yes, to make a sacrifice, just like in wartime. Because there is an enemy that we are all fighting as this Fourth of July weekend arrives: COVID-19.

Wear a mask as a sign of your love for our country, and each other.

Wear a mask to help defeat this enemy.

Wear a mask because you are a patriot.
