On the same day that Gov. Jay Inslee furthered paused Washington reopenings, Clark County hit a new single-day record for COVID-19 cases, with 47 newly reported infections on Tuesday, according to Clark County Public Health.

That record count came hours before Inslee announced that all Washington counties would stay in their current phase until at least July 28. Clark County, which is in Phase 2 and was once on the verge of entering Phase 3, is currently far from meeting the state’s Phase 3 metrics.

That became even more real after the county set a new high for daily cases Tuesday.

The county’s previous single-day record was 45 cases on July 7. Numbers reported on Mondays, which include tests from Friday, Saturday and Sunday, have been higher.

On Monday, 106 new cases were reported.

Clark County has confirmed 1,319 COVID-19 cases and 33 deaths. The county has added four deaths since July 8 after going several weeks without any.

There are 29 people hospitalized for the virus in Clark County, and 12 people hospitalized who are awaiting test results for the coronavirus.

Hospitals in Clark County are at 65 percent of their bed capacity and have dedicated 6.5 percent of beds to COVID-19 cases.

A recent surge in infections has increased the county’s infection rate over a two-week period to 59 cases per 100,000 population. The county has been averaging nearly 45 cases per day over the past week.

At least 19,713 people have been tested for the virus in Clark County since the pandemic began.
