All this divisiveness, how did we get here? My attempts to put this question under a magnifying glass showed at least this element: the competition in the Information Age for viewer/readership share has prompted drama, specifically mischaracterization and exaggeration and innuendo. Facts devoid of such are boring, so commentators in pursuit of viewer/readership pump it up. The suggestion that we eat less resource-intensive beef becomes “no more steaks.” Failure to pass a congressional bill is called “evil-hearted.” Criticism is called “hate.” I am still awaiting an explanation of Obamagate.
If one carefully boils out the pundit spin and unfounded assertion down to mere fact, perhaps all is not as bad as it appears, and if you listen, you might discover that you have quite a bit in common with others.
And as always, question what you believe and why.
