After just three days of baseball, the Wild Wild West League summer college wood-bat league suspended operations for a week after two players tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.

“Two of our players who live together tested positive for COVID-19 this morning,” the Portland Pickles announced Wednesday on its Twitter account. “They are both doing well and in quarantine. As a safety precaution, we are voluntarily canceling the next seven days of games to give all players the opportunity to get an additional round of testing.”

The Wild Wild West League is a four-team league with teams based in the Portland area, but draw players from up and down the West Coast.

The league began play on Saturday night at North Marion High School in Aurora, Ore.

There was one game played on Saturday, two on Sunday and two more on Tuesday.

The Portland Pickles and Portland Gherkins played in three games, while the West Linn Knight and Gresham GreyWolves played in two each.

At Saturday night’s opener between the Pickles and Gherkins, every coach, umpire and player who was not in the game wore face coverings. The players on the field did not wear face coverings.

The league is comprised of college-level players who were looking to get some games in during the league’s month-long schedule.

The league consists of several Clark County players. In Tuesday’s afternoon game at North Marion, local players Josh Mansur, Saige Keep, Grant Heiser and Kevin Miser contributed to the GreyWolves 15-8 win over the Gherkins.

Mansur (Ridgefield) went 2 for 6 with two runs, a double and two RBI. Keep (La Center) went 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBI. Heiser (Camas) went 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs and three RBI. Miser (Ridgefield) went 3 for 5 with one run.

Tuesday night, Skyview grad Cooper Barnum pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four, for the Knights in their 9-5 win over the Pickles.

With the seven-day hiatus, games are now scheduled to resume on July 22 with the Knights facing the GreyWolves at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Gherkins facing the Pickles at 7:30 p.m. All games are played at North Marion High School.

The Pickles said fans who purchased tickets for the canceled games will receive a full refund.
