A fire caused major damage to a home and displaced three people Sunday evening in Vancouver’s Glenwood neighborhood.

Fire crews were dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. to 8902 N.E. 119th St. There, they found smoke billowing from the attic of a single-story manufactured home.

The home’s residents were outside when fire crews arrived.

Crews hit the soffit vents with water from the outside until an engine from the nearby Vancouver Fire Department Station 7 was joined by multiple other units. The fire had spread through the entire attic of the 1,300-square-foot home. Firefighters entered the home and sprayed water through the ceiling into the attic, according to the fire department.

Crews fought the fire for about 45 minutes, with flames occasionally visible. Multiple water tenders were required during the course of the battle, according to emergency radio traffic monitored by The Columbian.

No one was injured. The American Red Cross was called to help the home’s occupants find shelter.

The Vancouver Fire Department sent five engines, one ladder truck, two water tenders and two battalion chiefs. An engine from Clark County Fire & Rescue also assisted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.

With temperatures reaching the mid-90s, Sunday’s heat made for a busy day for fire crews in Clark County. Emergency responders were dispatched to seven reported grass or brush fires, though none damaged any structures.
