Letter: Old Apple Tree lives on

By Larry Siewert, Church Historian, Vancouver
Published: July 28, 2020, 6:00am

The congregation of Salmon Creek Methodist Church have a wonderful gift on our property thanks to a longtime church member, Harley Mays, who was a local nurseryman. In 1979, Harley planted a descendant of the Old Apple Tree near our 120-year-old Pioneer Chapel, and to this day it is still flourishing and producing fruit. Harley volunteered his services for many years in keeping Vancouver’s Old Apple Tree healthy, especially after the devastating storms of 1950 and 1962. We are most appreciative for our tree and do our best to keep it pruned and healthy. Salmon Creek Church is the oldest Methodist Church in Clark County, founded in 1853.
