Letter: Protesters should obey laws

By Gerry Parmantier, VANCOUVER

Time to cease and desist the irresponsible exercise of protester privilege. Follow the rules and laws every other advocacy group is expected to live by, especially in this COVID-19 pandemic. First, follow (Oregon) Gov. Kate Brown’s restrictions on group gathering size and face coverings. Secondly, get a parade permit from the city if you intend to go into the streets. Of course, that means someone fills out the application and complies with the permit requirements: liability insurance, group crowd control and coordination with the police.

No permit? No street parade. Unlawful assembly. Immediate police response.

Get over your privilege and entitlement. Show respect for the lives and property of the people of Portland.
