Columbia River graduate and Oregon State baseball standout Alex McGarry has agreed to terms to play for the Cincinnati Reds.

McGarry confirmed Tuesday that while he has not officially signed a contract yet, he is expected to do so in the next couple of days.

McGarry was the Columbian All-Region baseball player of the year for Columbia River in 2016.

After playing one season at Tacoma Community College, he transferred to Oregon State where he redshirted the 2018 baseball season.

For Oregon State in 2019, the left-handed hitting McGarry was an All-Pacific-12 first-team selection, hitting eight home runs with 29 RBI while batting .293 in 49 games.

Before the 2020 season was cut short by the pandemic, McGarry hit .288 with three home runs, six doubles and 13 RBI in 14 games for the Beavers.

The 22-year-old McGarry earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Oregon State this spring.
