Letter: Protect election from danger

By Richard R. Gill, Vancouver
Published: June 16, 2020, 6:00am

“President, enablers must be removed” by George Will should be required reading for anyone wishing to understand the state of the U.S. presidency. The always-eloquent Will casts aside his normally reserved manner in calling loudly for the ousting of President Donald Trump and his enablers in Congress.

Will’s call for Trump’s removal is all the more urgent in light of Trump’s unconstitutional clearance of peaceful protesters from Washington, D.C.’s Lafayette Square, and for unleashing the U.S. military on civilian citizens.

Trump’s paranoid governing style is reminiscent of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin: elevating then disposing of insufficiently “loyal” officials, reinventing history, and wreaking violence on his own citizens. Trump’s actions signal his intent to corrupt and disrupt the November election in order to remain in power. I urge Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, and all governors, to take measures to protect the entire electoral process from the dangerous current occupant of the White House.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
