Letter: Police are appreciated

Please tell anyone who wears a police uniform, who shows up because they want to make a difference — they are appreciated. Each is a bright and necessary light. Anyone who speaks ill of the group which performs tasks that can turn any heart bleak are clueless about what is required.

Some of the “toughest” officers I worked for as a young college grad, were the most caring and devoted. They rarely received praise. When they did, they typically mirrored it back to those they worked with. Being a leader, taking a stand and learning how to measure what is needed and when takes a very unique human being. I applaud each and every one.

We are all people, and how we participate with each other makes a difference. It’s often too easy to lump a few who have lost their way as representatives of all. Let’s be the exception to that sound bite. Let’s work together; take a stand that brings us together for the good of the whole. This is not about politics; it’s about us. Citizens, neighbors and community. Let’s cultivate that way of relating.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
