Fishing report, March 4

Current and upcoming opportunities

Spring Chinook angling is open to boat and bank anglers from Warrior Rock upstream to Beacon Rock. Beacon Rock to Bonneville Dam is open to bank angling only.

Effective Wednesday April 1, spring Chinook angling will be open from the Tower Island power lines upstream to the Oregon/Washington border, plus the banks between Bonneville Dam and Tower Island power lines.

White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 upstream to the John Day Dam but remains an option for catch-and-release fishing.

The John Day pool is open to the retention of white sturgeon until the quota is reached.

Winter steelhead fishing is good in the Cowlitz River, poor to fair on Columbia beaches.

Lowland lakes have been well-stocked with trout and are fishing very well.

Crappie fishing is good in Silver Lake.

Walleye fishing is good in the John Day Pool.

Salmon/Steelhead

COLUMBIA RIVER MAINSTEM

Vancouver — Two bank anglers had no catch.

Woodland — Nine bank anglers had no catch. One boat/two rods had no catch.

Kalama — Two bank anglers had no catch. Two boats/seven rods had no catch.

Cowlitz — One boat/three rods had no catch.

Longview — Four bank anglers had no catch. One boat/three rods had no catch.

John Day Pool — Six bank anglers had no catch.

COLUMBIA RIVER TRIBUTARIES

Grays River — 10 bank anglers had no catch. Four boats/12 rods released three steelhead.

Elochoman River — 15 bank anglers kept one steelhead and released six steelhead. Three boats/nine rods released five steelhead.

Cowlitz River – I-5 Bridge downstream — 49 bank rods kept four steelhead.

Cowlitz River – Above the I-5 Bridge — 56 bank rods kept four steelhead and released five steelhead. 82 boats/264 rods kept 150 steelhead and released 14 steelhead.

Sturgeon

John Day Pool — 17 bank anglers released two sublegal sturgeon. 25 boats/65 rods kept two legal sturgeon and released 14 sublegal sturgeon.

Walleye

John Day Pool — 33 boats/69 rods kept 62 walleye and released 22 walleye.

Bass

John Day Pool — Anglers are catching a few bass.

Recent trout plants

Battle Ground Lake — Planted with 1,700 rainbows at 2.3 per pound on Feb. 18.

Klineline Pond — Planted with 2,300 rainbows at 2.3 per pound on Feb. 18.
