BELLINGHAM — Already proclaimed the most Instagrammable in the U.S. National Park System, North Cascades National Park added another accolade last week.

Petlandia, a website that allows owners to create avatars of their pets and transform them into personalized books, T-shirts, blankets, T-shirts, mugs and other items, said North Cascades is just as attractive to dogs as it is to their owners, ranking it the most dog-friendly national park in the U.S.

Parks were awarded points based on allowing dogs and permitting them off-leash, in developed areas (bike paths, sidewalks, paved roads), on trails, in campgrounds and to swim in lakes, as well as if kennels were available. Parks also earned points for the length of trails that allowed dogs.

North Cascades had the most miles of trails that allow dogs, according to the study, but it also earned points for welcoming dogs, allowing dogs on trails, allowing dogs in developed areas, allowing dogs in campgrounds and allowing them to swim in lakes.

Grand Canyon National Park came in second overall behind North Cascades, followed by Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.
