Letter: America is woefully unprepared

I read with shock that no one at Van Mall, or at an assisted living home, had yet been tested for coronavirus (“Long-term care facility residents fret over virus,” The Columbian, March 19). Residents at both facilities were taken to the hospital and subsequently died of this disease. This lack of testing seems to fly in the face of logic and common sense. The residents at both locations are highly vulnerable.

I just don’t get it. Why is there such a shortage of test kits? I might also add that I have a grandson who works at Van Mall. He goes in every day and delivers meals to the residents, who are currently confined to their rooms. I am heartsick at the thought that more cases might exist at either location. America is woefully unprepared, thanks to our clueless president.
