Weather Eye: Typical spring weather will continue with rain, sun

It feels like spring for a change, doesn’t it? As of 4 p.m. Wednesday in Vancouver it was only 62 degrees with light rain. I doubt it made it up to the average high of 67 degrees. A sharp contrast from the mid-80s over the weekend.

Today we have more of the same with scattered showers, maybe a thunder boomer and sunny periods. Highs will be in the 60s depending how much sunshine we can muster.

Rainfall amounts Wednesday varied greatly from downtown Vancouver, where amounts were near a tenth of an inch plus or minus. Battle Ground had about a quarter of an inch, there was a half-inch in the foothills around Yacolt and nearly 1 inch in the hills above Camas.

Typical of springtime is the variance of rain totals. Some neighborhoods get clobbered and others remain on the dry side of things. I always thought April was a fickle month weather-wise but May can also get into that category. But the sun shines a smile for us as well.

Friday should be dry all day and we inch up to the 70-degree mark hopefully. The dry weather will be short-lived as another cool trough of low pressure arrives later on Saturday for showery and cool weather into Sunday. Next week we continue that trend with perhaps some fair weather returning midweek. I place no bets on that, however.

So, as we remain basically in a stay-at-home situation, we putt around the garden, take a walk and breathe in the fresh air and of course watch the weather, which is a safe activity, especially looking out the window.

There you go, not much else to chat about weather-wise, so enjoy the memories of last weekend’s warm sunny weather while we endure a temporary phase of back to normal! We’ll take a look back to April with the rainfall amounts from your friends and neighbors.
