Letter: Freedom means following rules

There have been many letters from seniors like me, thanking people for following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines of wearing masks.

Then there was a letter from Gary Crane stating people are writing tear-stained letters because he feels we know Trump will win the next election. If there are tears, it is not because of Trump Derangement Syndrome as Gary called it, but because of those who will not follow any guidelines because they think they know better and no government can tell them what to do.

We have rules/guidelines on wearing masks and social distancing. Those protesting not wearing masks with their AK-47s are disgusting, those chasing a black man because he was wearing a mask because he looked like a felon (he wasn’t) are disgusting, the man who pushed a law enforcement official into a pool because he asked people to social distance is disgusting — these and other incidences are why tears are being shed.

The president has not shown leadership, keeps changing his story, expounds dangerous cures, and does not inspire confidence — that is why we shed tears. I ask those who laugh at those who care to study up on history and realize that freedom includes following guidelines and rules that are meant to help us through this crisis.
