Letter: Stay home, protect others

I have seen many people and businesses starting to disregard the reopening procedures for the state of Washington. Gov. Inslee has issued a four-point plan for the safety of communities in Washington, with thought-out guidelines for its citizens. Unfortunately, in Vancouver many people have chosen to dismiss stay-at-home orders, saying that they have had enough.

COVID-19 is extremely contagious, easily spread from person to person, and a person is susceptible again even after recovery. I think it’s important to remember that everyone is currently sheltering in place, and we are all ready to return to our daily lives. That is why it is important to follow guidelines appropriately so we can ease back into things efficiently, so we do not start spreading it around again immediately. Even if you feel like you are “safe,” or do not have prior health conditions, you are still a potential carrier, and may be putting others at risk.

At this time, I think we should continue to social distance, stay home, and look out for the health and safety of others, not just our own. The better we follow guidelines, the sooner this may be over.
