HAZEL DELL — The Vancouver Chinese Association has been working to support local first responders.

Most recently, it launched a Chinese Food of Love day in partnership with the national United Chinese Americans organization. The group delivered 150 boxed, hot lunches to Share Vancouver and Open House Ministries.

“Today with the fear and frustration around COVID-19, there is an alarming rise in the incidents of hate crimes against Chinese Americans. To combat this hate, the Chinese American community chooses to respond with love and compassion for our fellow Americans,” Liying Zheng, president of the Vancouver Chinese Association, said in an email.

The association raised more than $10,000 for personal protective equipment that was donated to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, Rose Medical Group, Council for the Homeless, local police departments, eight city and county fire department branches, post offices, assisted living and nursing homes, local neighborhoods and members of the City’s Emergency Operations Center, its website said.

Members also donated 60 meals to PeaceHealth and Legacy Salmon Creek in April. Find out more at vca-usa.org.
