Letter: Laughter is good medicine

If my advanced degree was Doctor of Medicine, I would prescribe humor and laughter to heal society. I am not bestowed with such distinguished academic credentials, so the prescription is satire.

Satire! As old as human history. Some famous names in the American past are Nast, Clemens, and Rogers. The humorist Carlin introduced seven words that could not be said on television. Bruce added two more. Society has introduced yet another one. That is the infamous “N-word.” But, believe it or not, modern media uses the “N-word” frequently, and characterize persons and groups liberally (sorry about the pun) with that “N-word.”

What is the “N-word”? It is Nazi, of course! If one is not properly aligned far left, one just might be an “N-word.”

What is the difference between Nationalsozialistische and International Socialism? Micro versus macro? Nationalism versus internationalism? It is still socialism. Whoops, the infamous “S-word.” And, totalitarianism in both cases. Which one exudes pride in your own country?

If you like your socialism, you can keep your socialism. If you identify as the “N-word,” well, I hope it is Noumenon. And, laugh and find humor — it’s good medicine.
