Firestone Pacific Foods admits safety lacking

As 22 more COVID-19 cases were connected to the outbreak at Firestone Pacific Foods on Wednesday, Clark County Public Health and Firestone CEO Josh Hinerfeld confirmed that certain safety measures in the facility were not stringent enough.

Public Health’s investigation of the outbreak discovered multiple areas in need of improvement with regard to infection control.

Crowds line up for ilani casino’s reopening

COWLITZ INDIAN RESERVATION — ilani reopened its doors Thursday following a 70-day closure due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The move jumps the casino resort ahead of the reopening timetable for the rest of Clark County, but ilani’s leaders expressed confidence a set of new health protocols would allow operations to resume safely.

Vancouver, Clark County officials remind that social distancing applies at parks

It was 77 degrees at 2 p.m. Wednesday, and the line of cars stretching from the parking kiosk at Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park reached all the way back to state Highway 501, also known as N.W. Lower River Road.

The beachfront site was busy, with teenagers playing Frisbee, kids splashing in the water, and speedboats zooming by blasting music. It was the first in a stretch of days that will feel like summer — today, the forecast predicts a high temperature of 89 degrees, a full 20 degrees above the area’s average temperature for May 28.

Select Vancouver Mall retailers begin curbside operations

A dozen retailers at the Vancouver Mall have begun offering “Retail To Go” services, according to the mall’s website, although the mall itself remains shuttered due to the novel coronavirus pandemic and Washington’s statewide stay-at-home order.

Jimmy John’s and Outback Steakhouse have begun offering take-out and curbside pickup food service, and Macy’s is offering curbside retail service. All three are using their own direct entrances from the parking lot as pickup points.

Washington issues new guidelines for religious services

OLYMPIA — Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced Wednesday that churches, mosques and synagogues can resume in-person services, with those in counties in the second stage of the state’s COVID-19 reopening plan allowed to have smaller in-building services and the remainder limited to outdoor services with no more than 100 people.

Religious organizations are required to have a plan that encompasses sanitation and physical distancing of seats or pews, limiting access points to buildings, and requiring all employees, members and visitors to wear face coverings, regardless of whether the service or event is inside or outside.
