A 14-year-old girl was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night north of Vancouver.

First responders were called to the intersection of Northeast 139th Street and Northeast 72nd Avenue at 8:55 p.m. Saturday.

Callers to 911 reported a full-size pickup had struck a Honda Civic. The two occupants of the Civic, the 14-year-old girl and the 16-year-old male driver, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Both were transported to area hospitals, where the girl later died.

The driver of the pickup was not injured and remained at the scene. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office identified him as Timothy McCaughey, 37, of Battle Ground.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the truck had been traveling north on 72nd Avenue when the Civic, which had been traveling west on 139th Street, pulled into the truck’s path. The truck, a 2007 GMC, struck the Civic just behind the driver’s door.

There is no stop sign at that intersection for traffic on 72nd Avenue and the speed limit is 50 mph. There are stop signs for 139th Street there.

The 16-year-old had recently obtained his driver’s license, which was in Intermediate status. The names of the deceased girl and the injured male were not released due to their ages.

Traffic detectives are seeking more details about the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Todd Young at Todd.Young@Clark.wa.gov.
