Letter: Get coronavirus under control

As hospitals deal with the spike in cases, and with their COVID-19 ICUs filling up to capacity, it is time that we call our state members of Congress to action and get coronavirus under control. After all, where will patients continue to be treated when the hospitals are filled?

Despite Biden’s plan to combat coronavirus, Trump’s — let’s admit it, embarrassing — attempts to block the transition of presidency will cause a wider global spread through the new year of coronavirus cases and deaths. As we all grow tired of wearing masks and staying home, remember to think of others and not just ourselves.

This does not mean we should give up, it’s time to call Congress and state governors to action. I urge Washington Gov. Jay Inslee to act now and put mandates into place that will help slow the spread, giving our nurses and hospital staff a moment to breathe. COVID-19 is breaking out all across the world, and it is not just at home that the problem needs solving. I urge Congress to support at least $20 billion in the next emergency supplemental for the International Affairs Budget to fight COVID-19.

A death is a death no matter how near or far from home. A human life lost over a preventable death is a cry to be heard around the world.
