Letter: Herrera Beutler is complicit

It’s important that we record the mendacity and cowardice of Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, as she refuses to denounce the attacks on our democracy being launched by Trump and his allies. In response to my comments to her regarding this issue, the congresswoman replied, “The president’s team believes he won the election and again, he has the same rights to press his claims in court that all Americans enjoy.”

Of course, the president is doing far more than pressing his claims in court; his legal team is publicly alleging, without reputable evidence, that we’ve witnessed widespread fraud, and that thousands of American poll workers participated in an historic conspiracy along with Hugo Chavez, George Soros, Cuba, China and the Clinton Foundation, among others. Herrera Beutler’s response? Nothing to see here, just your average American defending his rights in court.

It’s time to frankly state that the silence and complicity of Herrera Beutler is unpatriotic. History will not judge her kindly.
