Letter: Wearing mask is minor sacrifice

By Alan Kerr, Vancouver

It’s a darn good thing our current generation wasn’t around during WWII; “The Greatest Generation” sacrificed a lot. They were asked to ration gas, sugar, rubber and countless other goods that they went without. Oh, and they found time to fight and win WWII and rebuild post-war America and Europe.

What are we being asked to sacrifice? Wearing a mask in public to control a pandemic that has killed 250,000 Americans. Wearing a mask. That’s all we’re being asked to do, and had we had a real leader, wearing a mask would have saved thousands of those lives and allowed more stores and businesses to remain open. All for being asked to wear a mask. Shame on those of you who won’t, and thank God you weren’t in charge during World War II when even more sacrifice was required.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
