Letter: Don’t believe the lies

Thirty-some years ago I was listening to Rush Limbaugh inviting listeners to call in. I noticed that only those callers who agreed with Rush were encouraged, and when someone with a different opinion slipped through his filter that caller was denigrated, laughed at and insulted before he or she was cut off.

I felt then and I still do feel that he and his ilk were and are unworthy sounding boards, undependable providers of fact-based news and undeserving of the public trust.

Now we find ourselves in the aftermath of “The most well-run election in this country’s history.” Joe Biden won and yet a huge number of Americans are willing to believe this election has been stolen. This from a man who may be proven to be worst betrayer of his country and its people in modern times. Donald J. Trump and his minions’ efforts to intimidate election officials are becoming a daily occurrence. Will the Electoral College bend to pressure and abdicate their responsibility to our democracy, like the Republican majority in Washington, D.C.?

My advice is don’t believe the lies, never “stand down or stand by” in our defense of every citizen’s right to vote and always remember like our Constitution says, “We the people.”
