WASHOUGAL — Teachers at Canyon Creek and Jemtegaard middle schools experienced a positive change during the COVID-19 pandemic as they hold weekly Professional Learning Community meetings on Zoom. The meetings involve all staff in a process to reflect on instructional practices, student data and monitoring outcomes to ensure success. “The combined Professional Learning Community has been one of the few positives to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Tim Davis, Jemtegaard Middle School math and robotics teacher. “We have always enjoyed working with the Canyon Creek math team a few times a year for curriculum training.” Teachers will analyze student data to see if students are learning from lessons. Then they will adjust instruction for students who need more time. “Having an opportunity to hear what others are bringing to the classroom and borrow a few lesson plans, has been a thrill,” said Jason Barnes, Canyon Creek English language arts and history teacher.
