PORTLAND — Portland police say a man is recovering after two teenagers attacked him Monday night in Southeast Portland, hitting him with a mallet and steel bar.
Officers responded to Southeast 122nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard about 7:30 p.m. after reports of an assault. They found a man who had been hit on the head several times with a wooden mallet and a steel bar. He was taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Police arrested two suspects at the scene. Jakub Raymond Cyr, 18, was lodged on suspicion of second- and third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Police did not release the name of the other suspect because he is a minor, but they said he was lodged in the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Witnesses and the victim told police the teens had been harassing people in the area. The victim reported the two to a security guard in the area, then continued on his way. Police said the teens then began to harass the victim and hit him, but he did not fight back.
