Letter: Socialism not the biggest concern

I have noted that there is a current of fear moving through the American citizenry about socialism. I understand its source and wish to add for consideration a bigger concern that I have for our nation. It is best expressed by Hannah Arendt in “The Origins of Totalitarianism”: “The ideal subject of Totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist.” We are in muddled times. Our beliefs need to be substantiated.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
