Letter: Support Referendum 90

By Kaylee G. Ditlefsen, Seattle

I urge voters to approve Referendum 90. Doing so will ensure that Washington school districts provide comprehensive sexual health education to students using course materials that have been verified and supported by scientific research.

In grades K-3, students would be taught how to manage their emotions, establish relationships, and make responsible decisions.

For decades, research has shown that students who receive this kind of education wait longer to have sex, examine the risks, use contraception, exercise informed decision-making, and have lower rates of STIs.

Please approve R-90 to ensure students learn safe, healthy boundaries and practices.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
