A remembrance and celebration of life for Aaron “Jay” Danielson, the man fatally shot after a pro-Trump rally in downtown Portland, is being held Saturday afternoon at Esther Short Park.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the 39-year-old Portland resident died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Portland Police detectives continue to investigate the homicide, which occurred in the area of Southwest Third Avenue and Southwest Alder Street.

Hosts of Saturday’s remembrance event include Joey Gibson, founder of Patriot Prayer, who’s described Danielson as a supporter. A Facebook event page said there will be music, a barbecue and free shirts in support of Danielson, as well as a candlelight vigil. It said the event, which goes from 4 to 6 p.m., is being held in Vancouver so that it can be “safe and positive.”

“We want to focus on celebrating Jay’s life and not be distracted by potential violence,” the page says.
