Letter: GOP plays politics with court

The GOP claims that the Dems are playing politics with the SCOTUS seat, and that they, Republicans, would never do that. Right.

In 2017, they voted to change the requirement to elect a justice from 60 yes votes to a majority so that Justice Neil Gorsuch could be elected. That wasn’t political, was it? Ten months before Barack Obama’s term ran out, they refused to even consider a new candidate because “the new president should be allowed to select a candidate.”

Now Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed just a few weeks before the election. Under the GOP’s previous claims, the new candidate should be proposed by whoever is sworn in on Jan. 21, 2021. Right? Of course not. President Donald Trump and his group of sycophants now have decided to change the rules once again and are speaking of forcing another justice on us chosen by Trump before the election. Not political, right? I am sure this is to make sure that, should he lose the election, Trump can claim it was not a valid election and be supported by SCOTUS.

Let the Senate know that you are watching. Contact Trump and our senators, who are, thankfully, Democrats, as well as Mitch McConnell and the other GOP senators and let them know that we are watching them.
