MOUNT VERNON — A 24-year-old Friday Harbor man was sentenced Monday to four years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of controlled substance homicide.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports Logan Allan Eby pleaded guilty to selling the fentanyl-laced drugs that killed 24-year-old Frank Gray of Anacortes on Feb. 4, 2019.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine.
According to court documents, Eby sold the drugs to Gray, whom he knew was trying to stay clean.
“Losing Frank has fractured my family and it will never be the same,” Gray’s mother, Claudia Marken wrote in a victim impact statement submitted in Skagit County Superior Court. “The only thing I can do now is grieve the loss of my son, and hope that no other mother tomorrow or the next day or next month experiences what I have lived through this past year from the actions of this person.”
A few days before Gray’s body was found another Anacortes man nearly died after overdosing on the same pills, according to court documents. That man had reportedly gotten them from Gray, who had gotten them from Eby.
Eby was arrested Aug. 19, 2019. Upon his release from prison, he will serve one year of community custody.
