Letter: Be careful, or you might be liable

If you are in a position of power or influence and push back on wearing masks to the point of triggering harm in others, then you may need to protect yourself against personal liability through an increased Personal Liability Umbrella policy.

In other health-related cases, personal injury attorneys have taken cases to litigate against individuals (targeting their personal liability insurance for payment). Check it out. There are specialty firms reviewing cases for victims who feel they were harmed by the actions or inaction of another. As indicated in some of these ads, “there may be certain situations in which a patient may bring a negligence claim against a defendant based on contracting the coronavirus.”

Those who use their platform of “leadership” to denounce “science” (such as insisting the coronavirus is a scam): If you keep declaring COVID-19 is a hoax, revisit your insurance coverage. If you herald that you influence others, be prepared to pay the price.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
