Letter: Action needed after police shootings

Tiffany Hill was a victim of domestic violence in Hazel Dell in 2019. Local Clark County lawmakers, both Republican and Democratic, were quick to promise and introduce stricter domestic violence laws. The Legislature passed the Tiffany Hill Act swiftly.

Kevin E. Peterson Jr., a 21-year-old Black man, was recently shot and killed by Clark County sheriff’s deputies in Hazel Dell. The sheriff quickly justified police actions and no consequences or charges have been brought forward. How long will it take for local lawmakers to introduce and pass the Kevin E. Peterson Jr. Act ending law enforcement authority to murder and unjustly shoot a man in the back?

Jenoah Donald was shot and killed by law enforcement in Hazel Dell, less than a mile from where Kevin Peterson Jr. was shot and killed. Where is the J. Donald Law? How long will it take for law enforcement and leaders to be held accountable for sweeping these crimes under the rug?

We want police accountability and justice now. Be the leaders you were elected to be and take action now.
