Letter: Many help pay for outdoors

By Perry Elston, Vancouver
Published: April 4, 2021, 6:00am

As a user of the state forest, I read the article “Outdoor use higher than ever in pandemic, but who pays?” (The Columbian, March 28) with great interest. I was very disappointed that the writer completely ignores my annual support of our forests. I don’t hunt or fish but I do purchase both the Discovery Pass as well as the Northwest Forest Pass. I was under the mistaken impression that these funds were used to help pay for their maintenance. The writer does not mention these anywhere in his article about “who pays for it.” Someone should let him know that there are many people besides hunters and fishermen who do help pay.
