Letter: Pool restrictions don’t add up

I have to say I’m very disappointed in the COVID-19 “rules” at the YMCA. They have a 25-yard pool, but only allow 10 people in at a time.

First, they have restricted use of their facilities, but haven’t lowered their prices. It’s $83 a month for a family to use the facilities. My family of four would like to go swimming, but we have to make an appointment, and we can only sign up for a maximum of one-hour per swim time.

I have to navigate around on their website, trying to find something that works for us. Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays are usually pretty good days for us to go, but they are closed on Sundays. Besides, there is rarely a spot for all four of us for a whole hour. Consequently, we can usually only schedule a half-hour appointment, twice a week. If we go twice a week for 30 minutes, that works out to more-than $20/hour.

I understand that the Y is a nonprofit organization, but this is unfair. I think I will save my $83 and take my kids to the waterslides in Clackamas and spend several hours there. Sounds like a lot of fun.
