Prep basketball: Union girls rally to get past Heritage 42-41

Caitlyn Leake hit two 3-pointers in the final two minutes, including the go-ahead shot with 23 seconds left as the Union girls basketball team rallied late to beat Heritage 42-41 in a 4A/3A Greater St. Helens League game on Friday.

Heritage held a 39-35 lead with two minutes to play. Leake’s first 3-pointer later tied the game a 39-39.

Heritage freshman Keanna Salavea put the Timberwolves ahead 41-39 with a basket with 50 second to play.

But Leake’s final 3-pointer put Union up 42-41.

Heritage got off a 3-point shot at the buzzer but it missed its mark.

Abbey Kaip again led Union in scoring 13 points. Leake added nine points, all on 3-pointers.

Salavea led Heritage with 14 points, and Alex Rosenbaum added eight.

SKYVIEW 58, EVERGREEN 18 — Maddie Hendricks had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Jordan Hallett led all scorers with 20 points as the Storm improved to 2-0.

Avery Wilson had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Brooke Riley had eight rebounds and four points.

CAMAS 59, BATTLE GROUND 15 — Sammi Guffey scored 11 points and Faith Bergstrom and Ashley Bauer added 10 as the Papermakers used a balanced scoring attack to beat the Tigers.

Tough defense allowed Camas to take a 32-5 lead into halftime, the Papermakers breezed from there.

Mallory Meyer led Battle Ground with seven points.

Boys basketball

SKYVIEW 60, EVERGREEN 46 — Mehkai Brooks had 28 points and six rebounds as the Storm pulled away in the second half.

After the game was tied 32-32 at halftime, Brooks scored 15 of his 28 points helping Skyview pull away.

David Sheppert has 12 points and nine rebounds for the Storm, and Cole Bain added 10 points.

Jaden Stanley led Evergreen with 18 points.

UNION 98, HERITAGE 48 — Izaiah Vongnath hit eight 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 33 points to lead the Titans.

Bryson Metz added 15 points for Union, which led 47-24 by halftime.

Jayden Cardiel led the Timberwolves with 18 points.
