Prep highlights: River softball edges Hockinson to stay atop 2A GSHL

Taylor McRae’s solo home run in the bottom of the sixth was the game-winner as Columbia River edged Hockinson 9-8 to stay undefeated.

McRae’s one-out shot to center field broke an 8-8 tie and allowed the Rapids (10-1, 5-0) to remain atop the 2A Greater St. Helens League.

Gabby Ventura went 2 for 4, scored twice and had two doubles as River’s leadoff hitter. Halley Jordan went 3 for 4 with two RBI.

The Rapids have three games remaining, including a season-ending showdown against 4-0 Ridgefield on Saturday.

Bella Aspaas went 4 for 4 and Darby Peters hit a two-run home run that gave the Hawks (6-5, 2-3) a 7-4 lead in the fifth inning.

Stars of the day

  • Kierra Wilcox, Evergreen bowling, rolled a high game of 205 and a 569 series in a win over Mountain View.
  • Chloe Gregory, Skyview bowling, rolled a 539 series with her team’s highest game (191) in a win over Battle Ground.
  • Jacinda Lee, Camas girls golf, and Jade Gruher, Union girls golf, each shot 1-over 37 at Camas Meadows.
  • Ina Ding and Hana Yim, Union girls tennis, combined as the No. 1 doubles team for a 6-2, 6-2 win as the Titans beat Prairie in a tiebreaker.
  • Kia Hollister, Jace Moriki and Emma Loucks, Camas girls tennis, all earned singles victories of 6-0, 6-0 as Camas beat Kelso.
  • Addie MacPherson, Skyview softball, struck out 10 and walked just three in a 8-2 win over Camas.
  • Piper Rylander, Columbia River girls tennis, came back from a set down to win at No. 1 singles in a 2-hour-plus match 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 against Washougal to remain undefeated.
  • Hailey Paull, Mountain View softball, her two-run double keyed a seven-run fifth inning as the Thunder beat Kelso 9-4.
  • Candice Adams, Battle Ground softball, homered, doubled and drove in four runs in a 23-0 win over Evergreen.
  • Madison Dyer, Hockinson girls tennis, No. 1 singles player won a thriller over Ridgefield’s Grace Gama, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
  • Caden Vire, Skyview baseball, the Arizona State signee threw a one-hitter, striking out 12 in a 4-0 win over Camas.
  • Seth Minor, Skyview baseball, hit for the cycle, with a home run, triple, double and single in a 4-0 win over Camas. He had two RBI.
  • Tyson Lindemood, Battle Ground baseball, drove in the winning run with a two-out single in the top of the ninth as the Tigers beat Evergreen 5-4.
  • Katie Peneueta, Heritage girls track and field, won the shot put, discus and javelin in a dual meet with Camas.
  • Trenton Hamilton, Washougal baseball, had a combine four hits and six RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Fort Vancouver.
  • Chanz Flores, Hudson’s Bay baseball, allowed just two hits and struck out nine in a complete-game game win as Bay earned its first league win with a 3-2 win over R.A. Long.
  • Ryan Warnke, Hockinson baseball, went 3 for 5 with a run and three RBI as the Hawks beat Woodland
    11-2.
