Letter: One way to solve a problem

By Nancy Zacha, Vancouver

Reader Elden Ferris (“Advocate for responsible parenting,” Our Readers’ Views, April 27) seems to be saying that instead of trying to institute any sensible gun control legislation, we should instead go to the root of the problem: human sexuality. Thus, we must demand that henceforth only heterosexual married couples who swear to stay together during the child-raising years will be allowed to have children (since gun violence must be a product of “broken” homes and one-parent households).

Why not go a step further and require that such heterosexual couples bear only female babies (since most gun violence is committed by males)? In a few generations, there will still be a zillion or so unregulated guns in the United States, but no people left to use them. Problem solved.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
