Kara Winger’s fourth Summer Olympics ended on Wednesday in the qualifying round of the women’s javelin in Tokyo.

The former Vancouver resident and 2004 Skyview High graduate and American record holder finished 17th overall. The top 12 advanced to the finals later this week.

Winger’s best mark came on the second of her three throws. Her mark of 59.71 meters (196 feet) was about two meters shy of her second-place finish at the Olympic Trials in June.

Winger also reached the three previous Olympics. Her best finish was 13th overall at the Rio Games in 2016.

In Winger’s journey to a fourth Olympics, she endured a second torn anterior crucial ligament in her knee, an injury she suffered almost exactly one year ago.
