Letter: Unvaccinated help the herd

On Aug. 7, 2021, I stopped for the traffic light at Kessler and 15th Avenue in Longview. There was an anti-vaccination demonstration in progress. The people seemed well behaved while exercising their right to peacefully assemble and express their distrust of COVID-19 vaccines and their desires for the freedom to get sick, die, or pass the virus on to others to get sick or die when they contract it.

My first thought was, “What a bunch of stupid stupid-Os.” I have since had time to reconsider my original impression. I now realize that these demonstrators are working hard to help President Biden and Dr. Fauci achieve herd immunity for the country. Those who contract COVID and survive may have antibodies and figure into the herd immunity equation. Those who die will be increasing the percentage of the vaccinated by reducing the population of the unvaccinated. Then, they should be given Darwin Awards for improving the human genome by removing their DNA from it.

President Biden and Dr. Fauci should send flowers to their funerals.
