RENTON — Multiple people have been hurt in a vehicle crash involving a metro bus in the Seattle suburb of Renton, firefighters said.

Renton Firefighters said on Twitter at about 6:13 p.m. that units were responding to a serious vehicle crash at 140th Avenue S.E. and Maple Valley Highway.

Firefighters in another tweet minutes later said the crash involved the bus, a dump truck and a passenger vehicle. Firefighters said there was heavy damage and called it a mass casualty incident due to multiple patients.

Firefighters later said five people were hurt and then added one more, saying a total of six people were taken to hospitals. One person was described by firefighters as having injuries that could be life-threatening, two people had serious injuries and two were described as having minor injuries. Firefighters didn’t give a status for the sixth person — only that they were also taken to a hospital.

Roads in the area were closed and the Renton Police Department was at the scene investigating. Firefighters said their crews were started to be released from the scene just after 7 p.m.

No further information was immediately available.
