Prep roundup: Skyview boys sink Rapids

Skyview girls make it a Storm sweep

Colton Looney scored 17 points and led the Skyview Storm’s 3-point barrage in a non-league 65-28 win at home on Friday.

Seven Skyview players combined to make 14 3-pointers. Three of those came from Looney in the first quarter, which ended with the Storm ahead 22-7.

UNION 55, KENTWOOD 30 — Porter Hill scores 12 points and Jamison Limbrick added 11 points as the Union defense shined in a non-league win at Kentwood.

The Titans held the Conquerors to single digits in every quarter. Union took a 27-13 lead into halftime and opened things up with an 18-point third quarter.

Bryson Metz and Yanni Fassillis added nine points each for the Titans.

HERITAGE 60, SETON CATHOLIC 54 — Vernon Onick scored 14 points and Jarius Brown had 11 as Heritage picked up its first win of the season.

Jacob George led three Seton Catholic players in double figures with 14 points. Tyler Tran had 12 and Dax Clifton 11.

CASTLE ROCK 75, TOLEDO 56 — Trystin Marin scored 20 points and Lane Patridge added 17 as the Rockets improved to 2-0 with a road win.

HOOD RIVER VALLEY (Ore,) 69, MOUNTAIN VIEW 64 — Isaiah Vargas scored 17 points for the Thunder, whose comeback attempt fell short on the road.

Hood River Valley took a 10-point lead with a second-half run. Mountain View pulled within three points in the final minute but couldn’t get closer.

Girls basketball

SKYVIEW 49, COLUMBIA RIVER 36 — Skyview’s defensive pressure produced 17 steals and Skylar Groesbeck led the Storm with 16 points in a non-league win.

“Skylar was really aggressive going to the hoop,” Skyview coach Brett Johnson said. “And she shot a lot of free throws. She was 9 for 14 from the line.”

Jordan Labrador-Hallett added 11 points for Skyview. Groesbeck and Rowyn Riley led the Storm with four steals each.

CAMAS 67, SHELDON (Ore.) 46 — The Papermakers have added another sharpshooting freshman to their lineup. Keirra Thompson hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points to lead Camas to win over Sheldon of Eugene, Ore.

The Papermakers hit four of their nine 3-pointers in the second quarter as they took control with a 25-5 advantage.

Reagan Jamison led Camas with 16 points. Addison Harris added  and Ava Smith had 11.

Parker Mairs had eight steals, including four in the pivotal second quarter. Thompson also added five steals.

KENTWOOD 64, UNION 39 — Kentwood came out hot, hitting six 3-pointers in the first quarter, then cruising to a non-league win over the visiting Titans.

Mariah Gahl scored 18 points to pace Union, which trailed 32-14 after one quarter. Caitlyn Leake added 10 points for the Titans.

CLACKAMAS (Ore.) 60, WASHOUGAL 40 — Jaiden Bea had 18 points and 17 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers continued their tough non-league schedule at the Luke Roth Showcase at Sheldon High in Eugene, Ore.

Savea Mansfield added 11 points for the Panthers, who found themselves down 39-22 at halftime.

KALAMA 40, FORT VANCOUVER 30 — Aubrey Doerty led Kalama with 15 points as the Chinooks posted a non-league home win. Avery Rowe paced Fort with 8 points.

LA CENTER 27, WOODLAND 19 — Kylee Stephens scored 10 points and Gianna D’Emilio added seven more as the Wildcats won a low-scoring affair at Woodland.

The Wildcats held Woodland to just nine points through three quarters. Abbie Huston had eight points to lead the Beavers.
