Letter: Focus on ‘we’, not ‘me’

I understand the reaction to rising home and auto insurance rates due to new state rules. I have experienced the same shock. I also see it as the ongoing result of income divergence: an attempt to lessen the gap.

The well-to-do must look back and see all those being left behind. Reminds me of an old Western where the smart and adventurous whip up their wagon and charge ahead, leaving the rest of the train in the dust. Eventually learning the hard truth that long-term survival depends on an emphasis on “we,” and not just “me.” The weak and disadvantaged will naturally fall to the side, but must first be given a chance. That’s how we hold things together.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
