Letter: What happened to the Republicans?

By Carl Scheuffele, Vancouver

I heard on MSNBC a man speak the truth: The Republican Party no longer exists; it is now the Anarchist Party. They no longer want to deliberate policy; they want to overthrow our government. That, from everything I have seen and heard since Jan. 6, is blatantly obvious.

My question is, what happened? Eisenhower was a great president, and I even voted for Ronald Reagan. We all can direct the cause to two things: The Big Lie, and fear of Donald Trump’s rage. Almost every Republican in the House and the Senate shivers with fear every time Donald Trump speaks of or texts them.

Why can’t they see him for who he is: a sick racist determined to overthrow our democratic government and become a dictator?
