The public is welcome to attend a ceremony honoring a local soldier who died during his service and his family to assure they are remembered.

U.S. Army Cpl. Jeremiah J. Johnson was critically injured on Dec. 26, 2006, during his service in Baghdad, Iraq, and died from his injuries on Jan. 5, 2007. He was raised in the Battle Ground area, where there is an engraving of his name on the community’s Veterans Memorial.

The Patriot Guard Riders, Community Military Appreciation Committee, and American Veterans Post 16 are organizing the memorial for Johnson as a part of a “Never To Be Forgotten” series.

The ceremony is set to take place on the anniversary of Johnson’s death. It will last from 1 to 2 p.m. on Jan. 5 at the Battle Ground Veterans Memorial at 422 S.W. Second Ave. Organizers will conduct a three-round rifle volley during the ceremony.
