Despite missing three starters, the King’s Way Christian boys basketball team rallied late to edge Riverdale (Ore.) 41-40 in a short-notice home game Thursday.

Will Gunn hit two free throws with nine seconds left to put King’s Way ahead. Riverdale attempted a 3-pointer at the buzzer that missed.

Among those out for King’s Way was Trico League MVP Giovanny Evanson. The Knights struggled out of the gate, scoring five points in the first quarter and trailing 17-14 at halftime.

But King’s Way (4-2) finished strong, outscoring Riverdale 18-8 in the fourth quarter. Gunn led the Knights with 10 points while Alex Fulton added nine points.

Winter weather has thrown this week’s basketball schedule into disarray. King’s Way had originally planned to play at the SunDome Shootout in Yakima, but canceled due to treacherous conditions.

WOODLAND 57, LA CENTER 38 — Drew Burns scored all 20 of his points in the second half as the Beavers pulled away for a home win.

Woodland (5-2) outscored La Center 26-12 in the fourth quarter, in which Burns and Dane Huddleston each hit three 3-pointers.

Beau Swett scored 16 points and Huddleston added 14 for the Beavers.

Colby Hylton and Austin Nixon each scored 11 points to lead La Center (2-7).

Anna Mooney added 10 points for Camas (6-4), which went 2-1 in the Arizona tournament.

UNION 50, WAHKIAKUM 43 — The Titans’ short-notice opponent gave them a run before Union pulled away in the fourth quarter.

“We found out like Skyview and Hockinson did earlier in the season, that they are a pretty good small school,” Union coach Gary Mills said, adding that his team played from behind most of the game.

Wahkiakum (7-4) won at  Hockinson 40-37 in their second game of the season, and played Skyview tough in a 54-43 loss on Dec. 15.

Mariah Gahl led the Titans in scoring with 13 points, and Hanna Summers had 11. Alex Yelverton had 10 rebounds, and Grace Burchett seven assists for Union.

WILSONVILLE 47, SKYVIEW 44 — The Storm had potential game-tying 3-pointer hit the rim at the buzzer and Wilsonville escaped with the win at the Pacific Office Automation Holiday Classic held at Grant High School in Portland.

Skylar Groesbeck had 14 points, and Rowyn Riley and Jordan Labrador-Hallett each scored 10 points.

BEND (Ore.) 38, HOCKINSON 34 — Kylie Ritter scored 11 points as the Hawks played their third straight game against a Class 6A opponent at the Oregon Holiday Hoopfest in Bend.

Hockinson (7-3) missed a 3-point attempt to tie in the final 10 seconds. The Hawks did not attempt a free throw the entire game while Bend shot 22. Hockinson went 1-2 in the tournament.

KELSO 54, SEASIDE (Ore.) 25 — Natalie Fraley had 26 points and 10 rebounds in Kelso’s first game since Dec. 11.

Lexi Grumbois added 12 points and six steals for Kelso (5-1) in the first of two games in Astoria, Ore.
