First comes orientation, then hybrid learning for middle school students in Evergreen Public Schools.

In the coming weeks, sixth- through eighth-graders in Clark County’s largest district will phase back on campus as soon as Feb. 18 with all middle schoolers starting twice-a-week in-person instruction beginning March 1.

Sixth-graders receive two days of orientation starting Feb. 18, followed by one-day orientations for seventh- and eighth-graders Feb. 25 and 26. Orientation dates are dependent on students’ cohort grouping.

Starting March 1, sixth-, seventh- and eighth graders resume in-person instruction from 8 a.m. from 1:30 p.m. twice a week. Students are remote the three days a week they’re not in school buildings.

In Ridgefield, middle school students return Feb. 11 (sixth grade), Feb. 16 (seventh) and Feb. 19 (eighth). Washougal announced it will begin sixth-grade hybrid learning Feb. 11, followed by seventh- and eighth-graders in the building Feb. 16.

Earlier this week, the rate of new COVID-19 cases in Clark County dropped to 310.54 per 100K population over a 14-day period, which puts the region into the “moderate” range for disease activity. According to revised state guidance, school districts are advised to begin phasing in middle school students once activity levels reach the moderate range, which requires between 50 and 350 new cases per 100,000 residents over 14 days.
