WASHOUGAL — Washougal School District’s Career and Technical Education program will offer two new educational opportunities for project-based learning, overseen by Alexandra Yost, the school’s first CTE professional technical assistant. Yost is the former owner and chef of OurBar and is a member of the Washougal City Council. She will help manage a CTE-operated food truck and oversee the implementation of a Green Schools Program in collaboration with the district’s culinary services. The Green Schools Program hopes to involve students to reduce the school’s carbon footprint and help save the district operational funds by reducing waste and disposal costs. The food truck was purchased in spring 2020 with the goal of creating a student-led food truck business. There is a contest to develop a name for the food truck. The contest will run through Feb. 26. Details can be found at washougal.k12.wa.us/cte/food-truck. “In a time when it seems like everything is changing and nothing is normal, we are trying to take every opportunity to teach our students how to learn from change, collaborate and adapt to find efficiencies so we can continually improve the current situation,” Margaret Rice, CTE director, said in a news release.
